Channels of Christ Expositors Seminary stands as a ministry dedicated to biblical faithfulness, pastoral excellence, and practical discipleship. By aligning our purpose, vision, and mission with the truth of Scripture, we aim to raise up leaders who will faithfully proclaim God’s Word and serve His people in the coastal regions of Kenya and beyond. Through rigorous theological education, intentional mentorship, and a commitment to holistic ministry, CCES will continue to equip leaders to walk in the ways of Christ and fulfill the Great Commission in their local contexts

Ministry and Discipleship Journey

Channels of Christ Expositors Seminary (CCES) is the result of a deep, evolving passion for the exposition of God’s Word, a ministry founded on the conviction that sound, biblical teaching is the foundation for transforming lives and communities. This ministry, an extension of Channels of Christ, has a rich history, marked by a steadfast commitment to raising leaders who are equipped for effective ministry, rooted in scripture, and equipped to handle the challenges of our time through informal training and mentorship.

Channels of Christ Ministries Origin (2000)

The story begins in 2000 when Steven Mzungu, a dedicated student of theology and biblical exposition, was inspired to establish Channels of Christ Ministry. With a heart for the Word of God and an unwavering commitment to sound doctrine, Steven embarked on a journey to equip others in the study and teaching of scripture. His passion for biblical exposition laid the foundation for what would become a far-reaching ministry, dedicated to spreading the truth of the Gospel in a way that was both accessible and grounded in the depths of biblical truth.

Discipleship Vision: Sound Teaching (2008)

In 2008, after graduating with a Theology from Kenya Baptist Theological College, Steven’s vision began to take on a more structured form. Recognizing the pressing need for sound biblical teaching in his community and beyond, he initiated a discipleship movement. The ministry began with camps and seminars, where the focus was on teaching and preaching doctrine that was biblically faithful and relevant to the needs of the Church in the modern world. This movement responded to a growing hunger for theological education and pastoral training, particularly in areas where traditional, in-depth Bible training was scarce.

Momentum Building: Mentorship & Ministry (2012-2016)

The seeds of a more formalized training ministry were sown in 2012, when Steven participated in an initiative with Daystar Institute of Biblical & Leadership Development. This initiative, which provided seminars and training to pastors and leaders in Malindi, proved pivotal in Steven’s own growth as a teacher and leader. Through this program, Steven not only gained valuable experience as an interpreter and teacher but also developed a deep personal mentorship relationship with Dr. Peter Briggs, a respected author and theological educator. Under Dr. Briggs’ guidance, Steven was introduced to the discipleship exposition on “Walking in the Way of Christ and the Apostles”, which would go on to shape much of the theological approach and curriculum of Channels of Christ Expositors Seminary.

As the demand for training and teaching grew, the ministry expanded its focus to provide Bible seminars for pastors, elders, deacons, and church leaders. These seminars became an important tool for equipping leaders to preach and teach the Word faithfully, with a clear emphasis on doctrinal integrity.

Global Exposure and Growth (2016-2017)

In 2016, Steven’s vision expanded significantly through a transformative two-month trip to the United States, where he attended three major conferences: the Shepherds Conference at Grace Community Church in California, Feed My Sheep hosted by Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, and the Biblical Counseling & Discipleship Training (BCDT) Conference in Woodstock, GA, organized by Faith Community Church. These events, along with interactions with key leaders such as Pastor John MacArthur, Pastor Shane Kohler, and Pastor Aaron Menikoff, as well as classes at The Expositors Seminary, deepened Steven’s understanding of biblical exposition and ministry. The insights gained during this trip shaped a more biblically grounded perspective and have been instrumental in the growth and direction of Channels of Christ Ministries, influencing its current programs and outreach.

While at Faith Community Church, Steven was also invited to share his testimony with the Men’s Bible Study group, led by Jerry White. Jerry, moved by Steven’s story, chose to invest in his work in Kenya. As part of this commitment, Jerry gifted Steven a comprehensive Biblical Training Course from his personal library, developed by The Master’s Seminary. This course, which included videos, teaching materials, and a curriculum covering vital topics such as Theology, Systematic Theology, and Pastoral Counseling, profoundly impacted Steven’s theological development. It further fueled his pursuit of a Master of Divinity and became an invaluable resource for training ministry cohorts in Kenya’s Coast Region. Through these materials and the mentorship of Faith Community Church elders, Steven was inspired by a practical, Christ-centered approach to ministry. These experiences not only shaped the direction of Channels of Christ but also empowered Steven to continue impacting many lives with the Scriptures.
